Recently the Toogoolawah Men’s Shed constructed and installed three raised wicking garden beds for Carinity’s Our House, which provides a safe and welcoming home away from home for people with disability and their carers.
The garden beds were specifically designed to be wheelchair friendly, ensuring all patrons could access the therapeutic benefits of gardening.
The construction of these garden beds was really a community effort, with materials being donated by various companies and individuals. The plastic drums were donated by Mark Wheildon (arranged through and delivered by Don Duncomb), timber came from items donated by Seymours Toogoolawah, the Stihl Shop Esk and Dully’s Designer Homes. Karreman Quarries assisted by provided the gravel base and Searle’s Garden Products kindly donated the potting mix. Fittings and fixtures were funded by Carinity.
The Toogoolawah Men’s Shed members designed and built the garden beds over the course of a few weeks during their regular workshop meetups which take place on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
The Men’s Shed Secretary, David Elliott, said “It’s great when various elements of the community come together on projects such as this and we hope the Our House clients enjoy the pleasures of gardening as a result.”
