After some years based in a smaller space in Toogoolawah's CBD, the opportunity arose to move to a 'new' site, high on the hill overlooking the picturesque valley.
The property at the top end of Bellambi street was already well know to the community as it once housed the town's main water supply in an enormous concrete tank. The site was originally selected by the Water Supply Department in 1945 but it took until 1955 before the tank and associated buildings were ready to supply water to town., with better filtration then added in 1978.
Fast-forward to the 2000's and the tank, along with its assortment of other buildings and equipment, was now empty and stool silently on the hill waiting to be reimagined and reinvented.
The site was amazing and the tank iconic, but it was not perfect for our needs. Thankfully, we happen to be a group of particularly handy men who are also handy at winning grants and funding from various sources!
So with help from many companies, people and political figures, including the Somerset Regional Council, a plan was hatched and the site transformation began - starting with creating access to the tank interior.
Installing a door into a building doesn't sound too difficult does it? Well this was no ordinary building and no ordinary door. The below images chart the process of drilling through the incredibly thick concrete and installing a beautiful custom designed door to match the curved wall.
